LOWCULTURE FILM REVIEW OF THE YEAR
2009 has been a funny old year for films. There have been several pretty good films, but few outstanding ones; several pretty bad films but few absolute turkeys. So with that disclaimer in mind, what are the highlights and lowlights of the year?

Like so much leftover turkey being reworked into sandwiches and curry, today’s schedules are full of repeats and revisits. However, like a turkey sandwich, sometimes repeats can be a very tasty prospect. Well, I say that, but I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t actually know if the simile works.
The day kicks off with [...]

After yesterday’s spoils, today’s schedules feel a bit flat. I guess that reflects the general feel of Boxing Day anyway, but it would be nice for some more exciting telly fare on the day when you perhaps need it most.
The soaps should be a safe bet, though, with EastEnders (BBC One, 8.00pm) and Coronation [...]

Christmas Eve kicks off with perennial family favourites [...]

Time was when a former Hollyoaks actor could dream of nothing more than the occasional appearance on Fear Factor or Loose Women when they left the soap. Eventually the bar was raised ever so slightly to the point where they might hope for a role in Bad Girls or Where The Heart Is. Aspiring [...]

GLITZY!The British Academy Film Awards, BBC1, 10pm
» With the writers’ strike not yet having reached a conclusion, it is possible (unlikely, but possible) that the Oscars will not go ahead, thus making this THE film industry ceremony to be at in 2008.
» We liked a lot of the films we saw in 2007.
