Well last night was a treat, lowculture’s favourite quiz show, Only Connect returned on BBC4 and brought with it more witty ways to make us feel stupid and clever at the same time. Which is always lovely, it’s something akin to the same way that fat kids felt when thinking that they were watching Anna [...]

LOWCULTURE TELEVISION REVIEW OF THE YEAR
Well this year was, erm, fun? Television wise anyway. We started of with Professor Magwitch doing a turn as an annoying woman banging on about her lost child after billions of people died in Survivors. The show also starred him out of Hotel Babylon, Martha Jones and her who was [...]

LOWCULTURE THEATRE REVIEW OF THE YEAR
We’re near the end of 2009 so time to look back on the high and lowlights of the year. The others will be here with more traditional lowculture categories like TV and film, but this year we also started looking at how proper telly talent was appearing on stage in [...]

Like far too many US series lately, Ugly Betty has been struggling for some time with how to follow up a great first season. The second season was very bitty, and the third season even more so. Whilst there have been some elements that have really worked, such as the development of the [...]

The South Bank Show is one of the few television shows (along with BBC Two’s The Culture Show) to look at the arts, in all their forms. One of the great things about it is that you can see the likes of Will Young, Victoria Wood and Coldplay being taken as seriously as people [...]

Amazing. Brilliant. Terrifying. Heart-breaking. Fabulous. Devastating. All words that could describe episode four of Torchwood: Children of Earth.
I wasn’t planning on writing anything for this, but after watching it, how could I not? It’s the best piece of television drama that the BBC, and indeed any network, has ever aired.

So yesterday I was supposed to write a review of May Contain Nuts, only within five minutes of it starting I was asleep. Which doesn’t bode well really. So ITV must try harder to keep my attention. I’m sure it was wonderful, what with everyone spending the first episode trying to work out where they’ve [...]

This week’s telly has seen some of the most bonkers scenes for ages, and yet there’s no TV Burp to bring them to our attention. So for those of you who may have missed them, here are some of this week’s more ridiculous moments in telly:
Flick’s Mad Dad goes on a JCB rampage in [...]

Tonight sees the BAFTAs (or the British Academy Film Awards, seeing as the telly ceremony happens at a different time nowadays), otherwise known as the awards where Kate Winslet is likely to win something, unlike the Oscars. Nominated for best actress for both Revolutionary Road and The Reader, we all know which one she’s [...]
