It started out as the show whose pilot was considered “not as good as Phoo Action” and had to be rescued by a fan campaign. Now it’s got a worldwide fanbase, is on the cover of magazines and an American remake is in the works (now let us never speak of that again, it’s already been decided this will be rubbish.) Being Human returns tonight for its second series, extended to 8 episodes as opposed to last year’s six. The last time we saw the flatsharing vampire, werewolf and ghost, they’d just got rid of their biggest threat, vampire boss Herrick, when George kind of, well, ate him. He also accidentally scratched his girlfriend Nina, so is there now a new werewolf on the loose?

This year we’re promised that instead of the supernatural, it’ll be the human world that provides a threat to our heroes, and despite their best efforts to appear normal it seems they’ve been noticed. Meanwhile a couple of vampires from Mitchell’s past are back on the scene, and after revenge for Herrick’s death. But it’s not all dark, as ghost Annie tries to get a job. Let’s end on a quote from lowculture favourite Russell Tovey: “This first episode is the most naked I’ve ever been on screen. Practically everything’s on display.” Oh, wait, I meant to do a quote about how great the script is. My finger must have slipped.
