She hasn’t lost her Marples

LOWCULTURE TOVEY ALERT!

Hey, did you see that bit in last week’s Marple when Geraldine McEwan regenerated into Julia McKenzie? Amazing! I’m sure I spotted Margaret Rutherford and Joan Hickson during the face-morph as well. (Warning: There is a slight possibility I’m making this up.) Anyway, the cosy Sunday tea-time tradition of brutal murder isn’t something we’d normally look at but this week lowculture favourite Russell Tovey appears as PC Terence Reed. No word yet on whether he gets his arse out, but this is the ITV version of Marple after all, so it’s more likely than it might at first appear. As he’s playing a policeman there’s a risk he might not be in it much, like Ralf Little last week, in which case maybe you’d like to look at Benedict Cumberbatch, James Lance or Hugo Speer instead?

In any case it’s probably worth seeing how the much-publicised new Marple, Julia McKenzie, is getting on, especially since she wasn’t actually in it that much last week. Then again this week’s story, Murder is Easy, is one of those adapted from a book Miss Marple doesn’t actually appear in, so let’s hope McKenzie doesn’t end up just doing cameo appearances in her own show. And how are ITV going to shoehorn in some lesbians this time? Sylvia Syms is in it as well, maybe she and Miss Marple will get it on? Yeah, there’s an image to take with you to Sunday lunch.
