Eastenders is the most improved soap on telly at the moment, and the scriptwriters/storyliners seem to have realised that their biggest assets aren’t actually just the Mitchells and Brannings after all, with the Jacksons, Masoods and Slaters getting some much deserved screentime of late.

Following the dubious kissing on Friday, hopefully the Syed plotline will get back onto more interesting territory today (the whole of that episode was great, but the kiss didn’t work at all – absolutely no chemistry between those two) as both he and Christian think about what is really going on with each of their love lives.

The Stacey and Jean bipolar storyline also continues, and I just want to single out Lacey Turner and Gillian Wright for praise, as both of them have been utterly amazing for the past few weeks. This plotline could have felt forced and tacky (and I guess there is still time for it to fall apart) but it’s actually been portrayed sensitvely and believably. Hopefully when awards season comes around it won’t have been forgotten.

Finally, the Beales return from their holiday. Whilst I’m pleased to see them back, as they’ve really found their place since the Masoods arrived (the two families have the most believable and enjoyable friend/foe relationships on the show), be warned, tonight Ian is sporting some dodgy facial hair. And a kilt. Ulp.
