Any reality show judge worth his or her salt has probably had someone shout something along the lines of “if you know so much, why don’t you get up there and do it?” at them at some point. It looks like American Idol‘s Paula Abdul has taken this to heart, because in tonight’s Top 4 results show (PUT THE “GO” IN “GOKEY”!) she will be taking the unprecedented step of getting up on stage for a live performance of her new single.
Well, I say “live”, but I’m fairly certain that means “actually present in the studio” (as opposed to last year when she just previewed her new music video on the show). I doubt sincerely that she’ll be actually singing live, especially since talking live seems a bit of a struggle for her some weeks, not to mention it may well bring back flashbacks of that unfortunate performance of ‘Vibeology’ at the MTV awards which is widely credited with the demise of her singing career:
I mean, I didn’t think it was that bad considering the amount of insane choreography she’s trying to pull off at the same time, but objectively, no, it is not a good vocal.
Anyway, Paula will be miming her way through her new single ‘I’m Just Here For The Music’ (which some of you might recognise as one of Kylie’s old cast-offs), thus ensuring she can’t embarrass herself professionally any more than Cheryl Cole did while biffing most of her notes on the live performance of ‘The Promise’ on The X Factor, and as far as I’m concerned, that’s worthy of a call-to-arms on the front page. Also due to perform tonight are No Doubt and, appropriately enough, fourth-place finisher Daughtry from season five, who will no doubt be bringing his own unique brand of throaty goatiness to the proceedings as we all most likely wave goodbye to Allison Iraheta (not a spoiler, just an educated guess).
