GAY! Gossip Girl, ITV2, 10.00pm
Right, this is almost definitely the last time I will rhapsodise about Gossip Girl on this site, because I’m fairly positive that no one cares. However, the Gayest Show on Television (no mean feat when it ran concurrently with Heroes) is about to get a whole lot gayer, with one of the show’s characters coming out of the closet, which I felt merited a mention on the homepage.
There was some effort made to keep the identity of the gay character a secret until this episode was aired in America, and in deference to that, I’m not going to reveal who it is. However, the vast majority of viewers correctly guessed the identity of the closeted character some weeks before the show aired, so there’s a good chance you might find it anticlimactic. However, this does not stop this from being possibly the finest episode of the entire series.
Other reasons why this episode is amazing include: various knowing jokes at the expense of Katie Holmes and Vanessa Hudgens, Nelly Yuki being officially acknowledged as one of Blair’s gang, Georgina continuing to weave her web of evil havoc with Serena right at the centre, Serena making a dramatic confession in a closing moments, Blair being classier than anyone else we know, Chuck being awesome without even having to appear onscreen, Eric van der Woodsen delivering some serious pwnage, Gossip Girl’s narration being particularly tart and Dan being a righteous ass. Okay, maybe that last one’s not so good, but hating Dan is part of the fun of watching this show. You know you love me. XOXO!
