CLOTHES! Twiggy’s Frock Exchange, BBC Two, 8.00pm and British Style Genius, BBC Two, 9.00pm Fashion is clearly the new black. We’ve seen Mary, Queen of Shops, Gok’s Fashion Fixing it to win the challenges, the dreadful Alexa Chung and Henry Holland vehicle, Frock Me and now tonight we have a double bill of fashion goodness. First up is Twiggy’s Frock Exchange. It’s an incredibly strange concept for a programme, especially as it’s not a one-off, but a three part series. The concept is that Twiggy and a bunch of “mates” have a clothes swapping party. On the telly. Lauren Laverne also turns up, for no apparent reason - surely Myleene Klass would have found a slot in her diary, which could have let Laverne do something far more useful, like replace... Read more

Bang! And the Earth is gone…?

Today marks one of the most signigficant scientific experiments of our lifetimes, when a bunch of scientists in Switzerland attempt to recreate the Big Bang in a miniature form. That’s all well and good, but if it goes to plan, won’t that create a whole new universe, or destroy the one we’ve got? Is this really a good idea? How come they didn’t ask us if we consented to them mucking about with our universe like this? Apparently the scientists are either confident catastrophe won’t happen, or are so scared it will that they’re keeping it quiet, because other than in the wackiest corners of the internet, there hasn’t been much mention of what will happen if it goes catastrophically wrong. Or maybe that’s because we’ll all be blown apart... Read more

FIRE! Neighbours, Five, 1.40pm, 5.35pm; Five Life 7.00pm Have you noticed something about the cast of Neighbours lately? That’s right, there are millions of them, and not all of them neccessary. So it’s surely time for a spot of cast culling… Those of you who saw last night’s episode will know that it ended on a dramatic cliffhanger. For some random reason, pretty much everyone in the cast was either at Marco’s birthday party, in the woods (despite the fact he hasn’t really made any friends on Ramsay Street other than Carmella), or doing volunteer fire service training, in the woods. Marco proposed to Carmella, Fitzy got his leg stuck under a tree and… there was a FIRE! So, who’s for the ‘chop’? Which ‘dead wood’... Read more

I want to believe this is not slightly rubbish

PARANORMAL! X Files: I Want to Believe, Cert 15, Cinemas “nationwide” It’s the year of the cinematic comeback! We’ve seen the enjoyable return of Sex and the City, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Nonsense and now, somewhat inexplicably and with comparatively little fanfare, the X Files. Like SATC, there’s a sense of catching up with much-loved old chums, which makes it painful to admit that the end result is, well, less than hugely exciting. However, for fans of the show, it is indeed nice to see what has become of top alien-investigatin’ duo Mulder and Scully. As Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have done quite well in their solo careers, it’s a little tricky at times to re-enter the X Files’ world. If you watched Duchovny’s recent... Read more

Paul seems to be too humble to stick this up here, but he’s interviewed in today’s Independent about Lowculture! Fame at last! You can read the article here, but it’s best if you pop down to your paper shop and get a physical copy, because some of our LOLyoaks macros are in there! Get to it….  Read More →

Peep inside Sophie’s head

DVDs are great! I love buying them, putting them on a shelf and never watching them. But there was some stuff on the new Peep Show Series 5 offering that looked so promising that I actually popped that shiny little disc into that unshiny matt black tray, pushed it in with my very own actual fingers (no pressing the button on the remote for ME) and then – watched it! Unbelievable. Things you get on this DVD which are amazing include: » All the episodes of Series 5. » The final episode told from Sophie’s point-of-view, which reveals some very interesting things about her character (ie she’s just as selfish and manipulative as Mark and Jez – hurrah!). » A “who’s shagged who” featurette, which is exciting for two reasons – it’s very funny, and you get... Read more
